Verb Hair Care Favorites

August 7, 2017

Verb, Austin born – New York raised, proprietor of cool, effortless hair care with salon roots created by stylists looking for high-quality products their clients could afford. Verb comes from a place of natural beauty, easy living and no nonsense with professional hair products made for the 93% of people who don’t buy them. Verb has long been the poster child of effortless, great hair armed with that cool-kid mentality and attitude favoring an easy-breezy approach to bottling the good stuff that is priced right. Choosing quality over frills, each product in their almost ridiculously affordable collection is cruelty-free, created sans harmful sulfates, parabens, or gluten. Basically, Verb is the new affordable hair care line you need to know about.

Graduating to overnight cult favorite among the mainstream beauty community, it was via the Scouted by Sephora pages that I encountered Verb for the very first time. At first glance, their minimalist approach to sleek yet modern product aesthetic read to me like eye poetry, extending an invitation to discover more of and study on the brand as well as their mission. And it took two, now three, bottles of their holy grail Ghost Oil for me to fall head-over-heels for the new hair phenom.

Finding a niche where there previously was a big void, Verb is a professional-grade hair care brand who aims to level top quality products at a very wallet-friendly price. Tracking back my own in-salon experiences, regardless of how highly recommended a product came or how close to godlike my hair looked and felt, sheer sticker shock deterred me from ever extending that “fresh out of the salon” moment beyond the first week when I would not wash my hair just for basking sake. While their history is embedded in the salon industry, Verb conjured up a plan of action to narrow this all-too familiar gap, and decided to marry the two elements of quality and affordability to create what has now become one of the fastest growing companies in the beauty industry. But how has Verb accomplished calculating in the affordability factor where other professional-grade brands have failed to do so? When digging deeper into Verb’s history, call me Sherlock babes, I read a few interviews with the company’s founders that stated they do so by skipping on the typical high-cost expenses, like advertising, and in return grow their brand + audience organically through providing clean and high-quality ingredients.

Long-time readers of the blog know that I have had some major issues with my hair thinning quite shockingly over the years due to stress as well as heating tool abuse. On my second full year of extensive and loyal Keranique use, my hair has mostly recovered and I could not be happier. For the last two years I have used Keranique products exclusively and kept all others at bay thinking their ingredients may affect or interfere with those found in Keranique’s. Like a teenage crush, I’d get over not trying a new hair product real quickly, but something about Verb kept calling me so I decided to play the safe route and experiment with their Ghost Oil first. The rest is history.

Ghost Oil ($14 / 2 fl oz – 60 mL) – has been both a game changer and saving grace keeping my hair from turning into perpetual straw due to sun exposure and severe dry heat. Ghost Oil is a transparent, restorative hair oil that revitalizes hair from roots to ends. The formula features an integrated moringa oil blend that coats the hair shaft with essential nutrients. This can be applied to both damp or dry hair. I personally love to work this through dry hair every single day. Literally after the first use my hair felt noticeably softer and so much smoother. Its very light and weightless but has incredible results. Hair looks healthier, shines brighter and I truly feel that it keeps the heat from drying out my strands, especially the ends.

Sea Spray ($7 / 2.4 fl oz – $14 / 6.3 fl oz) – is my latest obsession. This gives my fine and flat hair a little more volume by crafting loose waves that last all day. Formulated with nourishing ingredients like sunflower seed extract, quinoa protein and kelp, Verb’s Sea Spray soaks up excess oils for soft, tousled hair while offering UV protection guarding against dryness, color fading, and brassiness. As far as formula is concerned, Verb managed to bottle the beach which is quite evident not just in performance, but in scent as well as it is heavenly!

For the best beach hair possible, my favorite thing to do is wash my hair and then slightly pat dry it before spritzing the Sea Spray all over. Taking two fingers, I kind of twist and coil my hair in either small to medium sections to properly work the product in. Once that is done, I plop my hair into a hair turban before going to sleep. When I remove the turban in the morning, it’s like my hair stepped straight out of a commercial because holy volume and beach curl! I do this at least twice a week and receive so many compliments on how shiny my hair looks and how amazing it smells.

Dry Shampoo ($7 / 0.5 oz – $14 / 2.0 oz) – is a super refreshing dry shampoo that absorbs excess oil, adds volume and body, and prevents damage from washing and styling with a non-whitening formula. I’ve never been sold on a dry shampoo before until this fell into my hands. It took me 1-2 applications to really understand in order to get it right and now it’s my go-to dry shampoo. It has a nice light scent and works extremely well to absorb oil, far better in comparisons to traditional aerosol cans. It’s also far more effective than any spray, and if used right, does not leave a white residue even on my medium dark brown hair. To use, I add a tiny bit to my palm and work from the scalp down, allowing it to set for two minutes before massaging product into scalp to create volume. Then, I brush hair thoroughly until powder is evenly distributed.

Leave-In Mist ($7 / 2.1 fl oz – $14 / 8.0 fl oz) – is a multitasking spray that moisturizes, detangles, nourishes, smooths, tames frizz, repairs ends, adds shine, prevents breakage, enhances elasticity, protects from heat, and preps for styling. This spray is easy to use and a few spritzes can go a long way to detangle hair fully, just spray it on your hair and finger comb it in after a shower. The consistency, albeit thick, is not sticky and leaves my hair feels healthy, full and looking vibrant.

And that wraps up my Verb hair care favorites. As always I’d love to hear about your favorite products or brands! Please share in the noteses!

Many thanks to Verb for sending these for review
