Welcome to In Gloss Mode! This blog is dedicated to curating mid to high-end and luxury beauty products with a primary focus on reviews, routines, roundups and small content posts featuring makeup, skincare, bath & body, and fragrance with some lifestyle elements mixed in. I started In Gloss Mode in 2014 as a creative outlet to share my passion for both beauty and photography.
This blog focuses primarily on product reviews and routine posts that include swatches, product comparisons and detailed thoughts on what I’ve tested. For more about me or the blog, please see the FAQ’s down below.
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of camera do you use?
Since the start of this blog I’ve always used some variety of Nikon camera and for the last three years I’ve been shooting with the D3200 model.
What kind of lighting do you use?
I exclusively work with natural lighting and a reflector.
How do you stage your flatlays and backgrounds?
Most of my product reviews are staged on a simple white poster board you can either find at Office Depot, some kind of craft store or in just about any stationary/art supply aisle. Other posts are staged on a marble kitchen counter top using whatever home decor items I have on hand at the time. The process of staging itself is always uncoordinated and never thought out, which in my experience keeping it simple has always worked the best for me!
What filter do you use?
None! I exclusively shoot in either direct sunlight or regular daylight.
What apps do you use?
I don’t take nor edit any pictures with my phone. Every image you see on my feed or on the blog is taken with my Nikon and processed in Photoshop. The only time I use my actual phone to take a picture is when I’m posting to my IG story.
What is your skintone/skin type?
I have medium cool-toned skin. I tan very easily and since I live in Las Vegas, I get a lot of sun most of the year. Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in Vallauris matches me for most of the year. Natasha Denona Face Glow Foundation in 45 Medium Neutral suits me best during the Summer months.
My skin type is normal/dry, but teeters more towards dry during the Fall and Winter months or on days where there isn’t enough moisture in the air.
What are your favorite brands?
Hourglass, Marc Jacobs Beauty, Charlotte Tilbury, Natasha Denona, and Anastasia Beverly Hills off the top of my head but I’m always exploring new brands.
