Fall 2018 Makeup

Fall Makeup Favorites in Rotation

December 14, 2018

Now that Fall is in full swing, I’ve been yielding to a major shift in mood and everything in my wardrobe including makeup and skincare have been going through a bit of an update. As always, one of my favorite ways to update my beauty looks is by focusing on new colors for the eyes, cheeks, and lips. There have been quite a few new launches over these past months that I’ve been mixing into my weekly routines and today I’m sharing some colors as well as new products I think will be great for the Fall and even Winter seasons.

Up first is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked Palette (reviewed + swatched here) that I’ve been really obsessed with for the complexion. As part of their annual Ambient Lighting Edit series, this year Hourglass launched the limited edition all-in-one complexion palette featuring six all new exclusive shades of Ambient Lighting Powder, Bronzer, Blush, and Metallic Strobe Lighting Powder. Usually the Edits contain a few existing colors alongside exclusives but this palette contains fresh shades and each color is just positively STUNNING! The entire feel and vibe of this palette is on the neutral side for color with a naturally glowy finish. Pigment is soft yet really good and consistent across the board. It gives the skin a luminous sheen and can also be used on the eyes. The colors are amazing and so apropos year round, not just for Fall. Three out of the 6 shades have a very fine shimmer when finger swatched but translate well to the face. You have everything you need in one versatile palette and I hope that some of the colors will be released as individual compacts in the future.

For the eyes I typically love moodier colors but also bright and glowy ones, it really depends on my mood and the vibe of that day. One of my favorite eyeshadow releases this year was the Charlotte Tilbury Bigger Brighter Eyes Exaggereyes Eyeshadow Palette (reviewed + swatched here). Charlotte Tilbury briefly discontinued the palette but has brought it back for now and it’s available on her official website for a limited time. This has been one of my most-reached for eye quads these last few months. It’s quite literally the perfect edited neutral palette for the everyday but can easily transition into evening as well. The colors are smooth and creamy and have such amazing pigment.

I also picked up the Hourglass Scattered Light Glitter Eye Shadows (reviewed + swatched here) when they were released. These have a super creamy feel, are easy to blend, and they layer quite beautifully with other colors including powder formulas. Since it is not an actual cream-based formula, there is no stickiness and creasing with the application. They are very soft to the touch and buildable so it allows you to dictate how subtle or intense you want the finish to be. The shadows apply more pigmented by way of finger application, but blend out nicely for sheerer coverage or as a topper with a brush. For me these are best applied with the fingers dabbed onto the lids. Naturally there is some sort of fallout but can be kept to a minimum when applied to a tacky base like a good eye primer or even concealer. On my lids, with foundation or concealer as a base, they last all day without budging as long as I don’t rub my eyes. They feel truly weightless and have the most beautiful shimmer. As far as colors are concerned I do like all of them but I LOVE Reflect and Smoke, in particular Smoke is perfect for an effortless and everyday smokey eye.

The NARS Atomic Blonde Eye & Face Palette (reviewed + swatched here) is still the perfect all-in-one eye and face palette to me. I live for bronzey shades all year long and this one was right up my ally. The palette has a gorgeous warm range of neutral, everyday colors that are super easy to wear. The eyeshadows are all virtually shimmer-based and come in metallic, satin and glitter finishes. For the most part they have incredibly soft and smooth textures and great pigmentation that is effortlessly buildable. For the cheeks there is Last Call and Unleashed. The powders have excellent pigmentation and a soft, smooth texture that feels almost cream-like.

This year I made a commitment to use my existing eyeshadow palettes more before splurging on new ones in an effort to stop frivolous spending and let products go to waste. Basically I rotate between all my palettes and eye colors every single day and it’s been actually quite fun since I get to use a new palette each morning and I have to get creative with eye looks in order to use multiple pans. This has also allowed me to step outside my box color-wise and I even used colors the likes YDK as well as Busted from the Naked2 Palette! Some palettes I’ve been rotating between includes Tom Ford’s Nude Dip, Hourglass Ravine Graphik Eyeshadow Palette (reviewed + swatched here), and various MAC palettes as well as the classic UD Naked 1 and 2. Another well-loved palette of mine is the Morphe 35OS Nature Glow Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette. It’s such a stunning and versatile palette featuring some of the most creamiest and highly pigmented colors I’ve ever owned. The various brown hues are my favorites for a deep Fall or Winter seductive eye look. The value that you get for the price point is amazing as well!

Mascara-wise I’m currently rotating between the Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara (reviewed here) and L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara (reviewed here). The Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara has been such a hit! I’ve tried countless drugstore formulas over the years and only 3 really stood out, including the L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara. Blackest Black is a really rich true black. It’s volumizing, lengthening, holds a curl, does not smudge, does not flake, does not clump, properly defines and separates, I could go on. Basically, it instantly gives the false lash effect without having to wear falsies.

Lastly are lips. Usually I love a good neutral lip for the Fall but this year my lips have been in a state of chaos more often than not. The weather has been insanely unpredictable, and super cold certain days might I add, that whenever they are back to healthy and normal, a cold and dry day spins them right back into a chapped state. Needless to say I’ve been carrying around my Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment a lot these days to bring my lips some sweet relief. This ultra-hydrating lip treatment corrects and conditions lips for a smooth, youthful-looking finish and is scientifically proven to repair the lips – significantly boosting moisture, enhancing volume, and improving the definition of the lip area.

What colors or products have you been wearing for Fall? Are you embracing any on-trend colors or wearing classics? Would love to hear what you’re keeping in your makeup routine right now!
