Makeup Summer 2018

MAC Mirage Noir

June 25, 2018

MAC has had quite a few new launches since last month and I’m working through them as quickly as I can to get them swatched for you babes! Up first I have the Mirage Noir Summer collection with the Mother o’ Pearl Pearlmatte Face Powder ($34 / 0.35 oz – 10g), Extra Dimension Bronzers in Delphic and Golden Rinse ($34 / 0.35 oz – 10g), Eye Shadow in Sun Speck ($17 / 0.05 oz – 1.5 g), and Cremesheen Lipstick in Nothing to Wear ($18.50 / 0.1 oz – 3g). Most of the items are limited edition, which I will indicate below.

There are five cheek products in this launch and I picked up three including the Delphic and Golden Rinse Extra Dimension Bronzers (limited edition), as well as the Mother o’ Pearl Pearlmatte Face Powder (limited edition). The Mother o’ Pearl Pearlmatte Face Powder is a soft, warm medium peachy pink when swirled that works as a blush for me. It has semi-opaque, buildable coverage with a divine pearly sheen finish that looks beautiful on the skin. The powder does oxidize a little bit within the first hour of wear, but I did not notice additional oxidizing throughout the rest of the 8 hours I was able to wear it before it started fading slowly.

The Golden Rinse and Delphic Extra Dimension Bronzers are warm and summery. Both have solid buildable pigmentation and firm, yet smooth textures that easily buff and blend into the skin. Delphic looks wearable in the pan but on my skin it pulls way too yellow. Golden Rinse is a better option as it is a warm, light to medium brown with rosy undertones. The powders have a soft luminous finish that don’t translate as too overly shimmery, but look more natural and work very well for a bronzing powder.

For the eyes I have the Sun Speck Eye Shadow (limited edition). I have been on the hunt to find a good quality, warm peach-based eyeshadow and Sun Speck is in fact a pretty medium peach that has micro flecks of copper paired with a frosted finish. It has semi-opaque color coverage but is not buildable, and I experienced moderate fallout from the flecks throughout the day. In order to improve color payoff as well as degree of powder adhesion, you’d have to use a dampened brush. This intensifies the color and is an insurance that the flecks stay in place. The shadow does have good longevity once applied with a dampened brush, wearing for 7.5 hours before fading.

Lastly I have the Nothing to Wear Cremesheen Lipstick (limited edition). This is such a pretty warm pinky beige and has a luminous, plush finish. It has a creamy texture that provides moderate slip and feels really light on the lips with minor hydrating properties. The color wears like an average lipstick, about four hours before reapplication was needed.

Swatched on the lips. For skin tone reference, I am not wearing any foundation and am completely barefaced here. My skin tone is medium with pink undertones.

Overall the quality is excellent across the board for the most part of the items I purchased from this launch. Colors are pigmented, smooth, and apply beautifully. I do think that I could have done without the Eye Shadow and Delphic, which unfortunately turned out way too yellow for my skintone. The rest of the items are more up my alley though although I do think the colors are dupable to some extent. If you own a lot of MAC already you may want to shop your stash first. If I could recommend one item to purchase it would be the Mother o’ Pearl Pearlmatte Face Powder, it just has such a great color and smooth, even texture.

Have you tried anything from this launch? What are your thoughts?
