Marc Jacobs Beauty just launched a new foundation called the Shameless Youthful-Look 24H Foundation SPF 25 ($46 / 1.08 oz – 32 mL). Inspired by Marc Jacobs’ own shameless attitude, and his tattoo, the innovative base formula provides natural-looking coverage and a second-skin finish that allows radiance and the texture of your own skin to come through, showing your best self all day long. To say that I’m obsessed would be an understatement as it’s one of the most flawless foundation formulas I have tried in years. I’ve been putting quite a few new foundations to the test recently but nothing has compared to the Shameless formula and it instantly became my new favorite foundation I’m so in love with it. It has the perfect amount of coverage, flexible color, is weightless, hydrating and has a creamy texture that makes my skin look and feel amazing. Did I mention I was obsessed?
The Marc Jacobs Beauty Shameless Youthful-Look 24H Foundation SPF 25 is an oil-free, buildable medium coverage liquid foundation that is clinically tested for 24-hours of long-wear. The formula features the patented Infinity Milling process that produces super-fine pigments which result in the most natural-looking, self-setting finish. Even though I don’t necessarily need an all-over setting powder, I normally do use one to amp up the glow a bit in my base products. This foundation has a self-setting finish and virtually eliminates the need for that extra step as it literally sets itself. I don’t know how well this would work on oily/combo skin types but for my normal/dry skin type the self-setting process worked perfectly. Formulated with invisible SPF, the Shameless foundation is flashback-free and photo-friendly utilizing a first-to-market technology that encapsulates the SPF in pigment. This innovation makes the SPF visibly undetectable, so there’s no flashback in photos and no ashy, grey undertones in the formula. Perfect for the selfie-takers among us!
The foundation has a rich, creamy texture that is very easy to apply and work with to get a smooth application. It has a light consistency that is not watery yet not too thick and spreads evenly across the skin. A little goes a long way, one good dot usually covers one half of my face two covers it fully. If your skin isn’t completely flawless or smooth, I recommend using a primer first. I use a primer regardless since I don’t like the idea nor feel of foundation sitting directly on top of my skin, but I also use a primer to even out skin tone/redness and help blur lingering acne scars. I’ve tried the foundation both ways, medium and full coverage, and found that full coverage gave me the best result. I am super insecure about my acne scars and while medium coverage (one layer) had an amazing overall look and did blur the scars to a degree, it personally wasn’t enough for me since I’m so overly aware of them. To achieve full coverage it takes two layers but still then it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything, plus I love how it still allows my freckles to shine through.
Color range is pretty impressive with different shades and undertones. There are 29 flexible colors available that were developed with artists and models worldwide to fit all skin tones and skin types. Since I was ordering online and sight unswatched, I went with two different shades that I knew would suit my complexion perfectly through various seasons. Medium R310 – light medium w/ pink undertones – is actually a really good match for right now since I’m lacking a tan. Medium R380 – medium w/ pink undertones – is a great match as a Summer foundation when I’m at my most tan.
Swatched on the arm side-by-side, including the color Medium Y390 – medium w/ golden undertones – which I received as a sample with a previous order.
Comparison swatches of other foundations currently in my collection. MAC Next to Nothing Foundation (Medium – reviewed here) is about as sheer/light I’m willing to go although I don’t reach for this for the everyday unless I’m errand running. Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation (Vallauris) is my almost year-round foundation since the color match is an absolute dream. Natasha Denona’s Face Glow Foundation (45 Medium Neutral – reviewed here) is my Summer foundation when I’m at my darkest.
Lasting power is really good although I didn’t wear it for a solid 24 hours straight. I lasted until the 19 hour mark and the foundation was completely in-tact. No cracks, no patches, no emphasized lines, no greasiness or oiliness. Right now it’s only in the 70’s here in Vegas so I am not certain yet how the foundation will hold up in 100 – 125 degree weather, albeit we do have dry heat and no humidity but sweat is always an issue. It photographs nicely and goes on smooth. I did not experience any oxidation wearing either shade. As far as finish is concerned, this is not a matte nor a super glowy foundation, it’s meant to be natural and has a subtle, multi-dimensional radiance to it.
Here’s a little demo of a before and after using the shade Medium R380. This is an (extreme – sorry for my skin’s texture) closeup of my right cheek which has fading acne scars, sun spots, and a bit of a small red spots throughout. Both images were taken on the exact same day perhaps 10 minutes apart. I didn’t use anything before applying the foundation, no primer or moisturizer – this was straight on bare skin to show how well the foundation enhances the complexion even without added help. 1 layer provides amazing coverage already and camouflages most of my spots. I have been struggling with texture issues for years, and at this extreme of a closeup it is more apparent then it would be at normal person-to-person distance – but, it’s nothing a little primer can’t fix!
In summary, I give the new Marc Jacobs Beauty Shameless Youthful-Look 24H Foundation SPF 25 two big thumbs up! I think it performs really well for my skin type as well as my personal needs. It provides the right amount of coverage for my complexion, gives me a subtle and youthful radiance, and reduces any redness I have. Not once during the day does it feel heavy, it’s fresh, hydrating and skin feels like it can just breathe and is fully customizable without sacrificing the weight. I also love that this foundation possesses actual skincare benefits aside from the added hydration. It contains snow mushroom, which is known for its impressive ability to hold onto water – it’s like nature’s dupe for hyaluronic acid. The formula also contains blue daisy extract, known to visibly diminish the complexion-dulling effects of pollution. The foundation feels amazing all day and leaves my skin looking just as good!
