For Fall, Tom Ford has been launching a few mini beauty collections. Among them is the Orchid Soleil Collection for Fall 2017 which embodies the seductive warmth of the Orchid Soleil fragrance. The new launch highlights the Orchid Soleil Eau de Parfum along with a corresponding highlighting powder and lipstick to emulate the mood of the scent featured in the same luxurious ribbed rose gold with gold accented housing as the bottle. Orchid Soleil is one of my most-loved fragrances. It’s warm, sexy, just plain addictive so when I found out a mini collection was to be based on it, naturally I was thrilled. I managed to get my hands on the Orchid Soleil Nightbloom powder ($80 / .28 oz – 7.9 g), but was not able to snag the Orchid Soleil Lip Color ($54). The lipstick was sold out in a matter of seconds on Sephora and according to a customer service rep has been discontinued. Unfortunately the lipstick was not available anywhere else, not even Tom Ford’s official website. While I still am quite disappointed that there was not a restock for the lip color, I do however have the Orchid Soleil Nightbloom powder in 01 Soleil Bloom for review today.
Inspired by the elusive Tom Ford orchid, the Nightbloom Powder in Soleil Bloom is a warm, light to medium champagne with rosy undertones and has a semi- metallic finish. The powder adheres lightly to the skin for a beautiful glow with natural-looking opaque coverage. It has a soft, super smooth and almost cream-like texture that applies evenly to the skin and is very easy to blend. One of the things I really like about this powder is that while it has a soft consistency, it is not powdery meaning that color deposit and coverage is much easier to control. Pigment is sumptuously rich with a degree of shimmer that is visible but does not emphasize pores or skin’s natural texture. It is worth mentioning that there is a subtle fragrance added but does not resemble anything close to the Orchid Soleil perfume. Lasting power is impressive, wearing beautifully for over 10 hours (a full day for me) without fall-out, fading or the shimmer particles separating from the actual color.
Swatched on the arm
The Orchid Soleil Nightbloom Powder is simply just drop-dead gorgeous in every aspect from the packaging to the color and everything in between. I gravitate more towards champagne, beige, nude colors for highlighters and this one I am totally in love with. It’s literally the perfect neutral highlighter and an absolute must-have for me.
Right now, the Orchid Soleil collection appears to have been completely discontinued in the U.S. Aside from the actual fragrance, which is permanent to the line, neither the lipstick or highlighter is available online and in most stores. I suggest calling your local counter to see whether they carry a small stock or not. My philosophy is it’s better to ask than to assume. This specific collection was evidently super limited edition which is kind of heartbreaking since I am so in love with the highlighter. Fingers crossed that it might be brought back in the future.
In case you are looking to indulge yourself in some Tom Ford beauty this Winter, his Soleil Winter 2017 collection is still available at Sephora, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and Saks. He also recently released his limited edition Private Shadow eyeshadow singles lineup to counters as well as online retailers.
