Favorites Roundup

Fall Neutral Favorites

November 3, 2017

I’m obsessed with fresh, cozy neutrals for Fall and today I have a roundup of some neutral beauty staples of mine including both older as well as new launches. Over the past few weeks, many new releases in eyes and specifically lips have gone live for Fall/Winter 2017 as well as Holiday collections – and of course, I had to check out the neutral-based options which there was quite a bit of. Up first is my favorite category for eyes featuring new launches along with long-time favorites.

My most-used eyeshadow palette of all time is Nude Dip by Tom Ford. The hype and mayhem that has surrounded this quad since its official launch for Fall 2014 is real and totally justified. This is a classically timeless neutral palette with a color combination suitable for the everyday as well as evening that is equally elegant as it is modern. The shades are so easy to wear since they compliment each other flawlessly, and while the colors are shimmery they are super refined and wearable. Texture is quite unique, soft, almost creamy that gives this deep, flattering multi-dimensional look to the eyes with very rich pigment and long-lasting quality. Nude Dip falls into the category of makeup essentials that I have in my stash at all times, it’s an effortless palette that is versatile enough to wear for a number of occasions and will go with a multitude of lip colors regardless of shade or whether it pulls warm or cool. Pure love.

Another powder eyeshadow palette favorite of mine is the MAC Girls Power Hungry Palette (reviewed + swatched here). The Power Hungry Palette is a solid neutral melange of warm shades and shimmers perfect for creating softer looks. Being both sleek and simple, aside from the formula this palette has beautiful, wearable shade options easy to transition from season to season. While basic in its color offerings, I find it an incredibly versatile palette and highly recommend it if you’re looking for a low maintenance range that supplies a softer, shimmery effect.

Laura Mercier’s Caviar Sticks are the perfect no-fuss, one and done, cream eyeshadow sticks that you can swipe on, blend/smudge with a finger, and go. I have been using the Caviar Sticks for years and absolutely love them just out of ease and convenience – plus, most of the colors are to die for. For the Holiday season this year, Laura Mercier produced one of her best sets yet, the Mod To Modern Caviar Stick Eye Colour Collection (reviewed + swatched here), including beautiful neutrals in two finishes, shimmer and matte:  Rosegold (shimmer), Amethyst (shimmer), Vanilla Kiss (matte), Au Naturel (matte). All four are stunning colors I use daily.

For cheeks, I have a few considered “neutral” blushes that mainly involve some type of pink in tone. Actual nude-inspired blushes do not work well on my medium skintone and most are too light to make any sort of difference other than function as a highlighter at that point. My go-to blush of the moment is the Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Blush in Euphoric Fusion (reviewed + swatched here). I loved the formula of the Ambient Strobe Lighting Blush so much that I bought all the colors. Euphoric Fusion is a warm light-to-medium mauve with rosy undertones and has micro pearlesscent shimmer.

Hourglass also launched the Ambient Metallic Strobe Lighting Palette (reviewed + swatched here) for the Holiday season. This is a highly concentrated highlighter palette featuring three all new exclusive shades, they provide the most intense and brightest highlight to the skin yet revealing a reflective, vibrant glow. The powders layer nicely with other powder and cream products as well as liquid formulations, melding like a dream with the skin without emphasizing pores or texture. The pigment is very impressive and the metallic, almost wet-like sheen is every highlighter junkie’s dream – and albeit quite intense is yet still very wearable.

A Summer favorite turned seasonless staple is the Becca x Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette (reviewed + swatched here). Endowed with warm sultry shades, the colors coordinate beautifully together for the complexion as well as the eyes. It’s wearable, easy to layer and I love the colors. Rose Gold and Beach Nectar are gorgeous highlighters perfect to brighten the face with a lovely flush of color and glow without being overdone or too frosty.

Lastly is another Hourglass favorite and that is the Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 3 (reviewed + swatched here). Each Holiday season, Hourglass launches a brand new edit that contains three best-selling shades and three new exclusives. This year’s rose gold edition is one of the better ones I’ve encountered. It’s an exquisite, well-executed palette that works really well for my medium skin tone and each of the shades layer beautifully with the next, making this a total travel gem. These have the perfect in-between mix of color and glow. They are luminous in a subtle nature so they give the skin that beautiful soft sheen with enough color balance to bring life to the face.

The last category is for lips. Despite that this season liquid lips are trending yet again, I remain a traditional cream formula girl at heart. I simply love glossy lips of any kind and I have dozens of neutrals that at first sight look similar, are completely different in undertone and I just can’t get enough. A few medium to full coverage lipsticks I’ve been obsessed with:

The new Tom Ford Lip Color additions for Fall 2017, including: All Mine, Naked Ambition, Spiced Honey, and Bad Lieutenant. More Tom Ford favorites include Revolve Around Me – which if you thought the perfect nude didn’t exist, this is the one. Also included are of course Bradley and Graham from the Lips & Boys 2016 series (reviewed + swatched here). Bite Beauty Multistick in Cashew (reviewed + swatched here). MAC x Nicki Minaj lipsticks in The Pinkprint and Nicki’s Nude (reviewed + swatched here) and the Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo in Believer and Dreamer (reviewed + swatched here).

My most-used lip glosses these days, and really all year long so far are the Nars Velvet Lip Glides in Stripped, Unlaced and Suck (reviewed + swatched here). The Velvet Lip Glide formula marries the comfortable lightweight cloak of a lip gloss and the finish of a lipstick. The Velvet Lip Glides are highly saturated, richly pigmented lip colors that provide ultimate hydration and long-lasting wear. They have a smooth, non-sticky consistency with a weightless feel that glides product effortlessly onto the lips achieving strong color coverage in just a few swipes. Their finish is described as a “semi-matte”, but on initial swipe they maintain a creamy sheen until about hour 3 where the finish develops into a velvety one instead.

A new lip gloss I recently discovered came by way of the Bite Beauty Champagne Discovery Lip Set (reviewed + swatched here), and is the Prismatic Pearl Crème Lip Gloss in Champagne. Champagne is a warm, light to medium bronzy gold with subtle orange undertones and has fine golden and pearl shimmer. It has semi- opaque coverage with a lightweight texture that is comfortable to wear without any grittiness from the shimmer particles. Champagne is such a gorgeous metallic color and adds a beautiful shine to the lips that is easy to apply, not to mention hydrating. On its own the color is stunning, but I personally love to wear it as a topper in combination with the Bite Beauty Lip Pencil in #036 and Cashew Multistick, as seen in this post.

While lip liner is not something I wear daily, I do tend to wear it more often during this time of year. My go-to definitely is MAC Lip Pencil in Stripdown – it’s the perfect go with everything kind of peachy flesh nude with brown undertones. It’s kind of similar to MAC’s Oak but pulls warmer. Another modern nude I love as a lip liner is Socialite by Lorac. This is another one of those go with everything kind of nudes but has a rosy tone to it. Lastly is #036 by Bite Beauty, this is their Cashew lip color but in liner format. The medium rosy taupe color appears a little darker than what I would personally like a nude to be – that being said, I can pair this with just about every lip color in my collection and it somehow transforms and defines lip colors in the most flattering way possible.

That rounds up my current favorite Fall neutrals. I hope you enjoyed and if you’re on the market for a good neutral in eyes, lips or cheeks, then hopefully the swatches will help!
