Tom Ford Boys & Girls Lip Color – Lips & Girls

October 9, 2017

Tom Ford introduces Lips & Girls ($36 / 0.07 oz – 2.07 mL), the new and celebrated answer to his iconic Lips & Boys series. Inspired by and named after women he admires, the debut of the girls features a wardrobe of 50 brand new clutch-size lipsticks encased in luxurious, sleek white-and-gold packaging available in two finishes: sheer and ultra-rich. 50 Boys meet 50 Girls, the collection has now expanded to hold 100 lipsticks and has blossomed into a full range aptly titled Boys & Girls. This season, Tom Ford also introduces six new Boys shades: Charles (cinnamon), Warren (brick red), Magnus (matte cherry red), Connor (orangey red), Alain (deep red with shimmer), and Federico (coral red). For those new to Tom Ford lip colors, the clutch-size lipsticks a great way to start with the line seeing as the full-sized lip colors are $50+ each. With 100 shade options to choose from, there are endless possibilities to the lip looks that can be created using individual colors or layered with another. While I am still in the process of deciding which other colors to add on, for now I have five swatched here today.

I have been a huge fan of Tom Ford lip products for ages. There are good lipsticks, there are great lipsticks, and then there are Tom Ford lipsticks. From the formula down to the design, a Tom Ford lipstick represents what a truly holy grail lipstick should ultimately be. While expensive, they are literally worth every single penny and in my opinion are strongly considered a long-term investment for a good and well-rounded makeup foundation.

(left to right: Alicia, Greta, Nico, Marguerite and Carine)

The Girls, whose names include Carine, Naomi, Edita and more are available in two finishes: 25 sheer and 25 full-coverage. Ranging from sultry nudes to vixen reds and even blues, each lipstick is made with soja seed extract, Brazilian murumuru butter, and chamomile flower oil for that luxurious smooth and creamy texture so synonymous with TF lipsticks. For now I decided to opt for the Boys & Girls Lip Color Sheer in the colors: Alicia, Carine, Greta, Nico and Marguerite. I found that the sheer finish range seemed more in tandem with my personal color preferences. The sheer lip colors have semi- sheer to very light coverage that apply evenly across the lips and are super comfortable to wear. The overall formula is very hydrating with a lightweight texture and smooth consistency that makes the colors creamy but not too creamy. Pigment is sheer to light but buildable, covering the lip entirely leaving behind a high-gloss shine. You’ll find in the lip swatches below that the colors overall do show up but there is a slight translucent quality to them so you can see just a sheer shroud of your natural lip color underneath. All have great application without any streaking or patches. Lasting power is about medium at best, wearing little over two hours.

A look at the color selection and descriptions as I see them

  • Alicia – is a warm, light to medium pink with soft blue undertones
  • Carine – is a warm, light beige nude with peach undertones and has a subtle golden shimmer
  • Greta – is a warm, light to medium pink with blue undertones and has a pearly sheen
  • Nico – is a warm, medium to dark plum with light brown undertones and a pearl finish
  • Marguerite – is a warm, light pink with blue undertones and has a frosty finish with pearl shimmer

Swatched on the arm

Swatched on the lips. For skin tone reference, I am not wearing any foundation and am completely barefaced here. My skin tone is medium with pink undertones. The swatches below feature two coats of color.

It’s really hard to narrow down my favorite because they’re all such amazing colors, but I must say that Carine might just be a more frequent go-to. The Boys & Girls Lip Color Sheer are excellent in formula and presentation. They are hydrating, feel comfortable to wear and are weightless on the lips. Even for them being sheer in nature, they deliver just enough color to the lips to produce a beautiful glossy look.

The Tom Ford Boys & Girls Lip Color collection is available in both individual format as well as box sets and can be found on Sephora, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Net-a-Porter, Tom Ford official website and Beautylish.
