For their Holiday 2017 edition, Hourglass Cosmetics launched yet another limited edition palette called the Ambient Metallic Strobe Lighting Palette ($62 / 3 x 0.10 oz – 3 g ). Featuring three all new exclusive shades, the highly concentrated Ambient Metallic Strobe Lighting Powders provide the most intense and brightest highlight to the skin yet revealing a reflective, vibrant glow. I have acquired many of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palettes over the years plus a wide number of individual color compacts. The Ambient Metallic Strobe Lighting Palette by far is the most unique and glow-inducing version out of all the palettes and powders I own, even much more so than the Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders which are quite illuminating in itself.
A first of its kind in the Ambient Lighting series, each of the new Ambient Metallic Strobe Lighting Powders are formulated with intensely concentrated, multifaceted pearl particles in varying sizes and refraction levels to give the most reflective glow to the high points of the face, while the concentrated formula utilizes the custom Photoluminescent Technology to intensify the way light reflects on the skin. These metallic powders have a soft and ultra smooth texture without being frosty. They are lightweight, easy to blend and buildable, although one swipe produces more than enough highlight to really amplify the high-points of the face to an entirely new level. Unlike the Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders, the Ambient Metallic Strobe Lighting Powders are very condensed containing significantly less shimmer/glitter than the standard powders and are also a little less powdery instead providing more of a wet feel and finish. Lasting power is in line with the rest of the Ambient Lighting products – wearing from early morning to mid-evening without fading or the color separating from the highlight itself.
A look at the color selection and descriptions as I see them
- Absolute Strobe Light – is a light to semi- medium, warm peach with subtle pink undertones and has a metallic finish
- Pure Strobe Light – is a pale, warm gold with yellow undertones and has a metallic finish
- Lucent Strobe Light – is a light to medium, warm rose gold with a mix of peach and yellow undertones and has a metallic finish
Swatched on the arm
Overall yet another amazing addition to the Hourglass Ambient Lighting line. I absolutely love it and find it perfect for adding a beautiful glow to the complexion, including the eyes. The powders layer nicely with other powder and cream products as well as liquid formulations, melding like a dream with the skin without emphasizing pores or texture. Like most Hourglass complexion products, the metallic powders have a soft focus technology that helps to minimize the look of wrinkles, imperfections, and discoloration, while emulating the appearance of young, healthy skin. In retrospect, overall formulation is greatly different than the regular strobing powders and in comparison the metallic powders are actually better due to the smoother texture and condensed consistency. The pigment is very impressive and the metallic, almost wet-like sheen is every highlighter junkie’s dream – and albeit quite intense is yet still very wearable. I definitely deem it a must-have of the season together with the recent release of the Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 3 (reviewed here).
