MAC Cosmetics has teamed up once again with none other than longtime brand ambassador Nicki Minaj in what is one of the most widely anticipated collections of the Fall 2017 season. Having been the face twice of MAC’s celebrated Viva Glam foundation, in 2013 her Majesty Minaj was crowned the title of best selling Viva Glam lipstick of all time, which was a pastel lavender lip range. Swapping her otherwise daring beauty aesthetics, the new MAC x Nicki Minaj Collection boasts more natural and sophisticated shades. Translating her newfound understated style, the queen of rap is serving up some serious nudes addressing the wider color realm of the various neutral tones that the singer is often seen wearing these days. The introduction of the two new limited edition lipsticks, exclusively designed by Nicki herself, called Nicki’s Nude and The Pinkprint, are just a prelude to an even bigger collaboration project set to arrive in 2018. While very little details about the project are known, the wide speculation surrounds an actual collection as Nicki dubbed it a “first of its kind partnership for me and the OG M·A·C” on her Instagram page. And honestly, if it’s anything as good as the lipsticks, then I am here for it!
As a MAC fan, I always get excited when they collaborate with an artist, whether from the music, fashion or other creatively driven industry. Most of the time the colors are not exactly up my alley, but I look forward to see who they team up with and what creations are in place to promote their latest campaign. For those who love a good classy nude or just subtle neutrals in general, this launch is definitely for you (*raises hand*). Both of these are stunning neutrals with really good coverage and pigment that apply evenly and beautifully to the lips. Each has fully opaque color payoff and have a lightweight, creamy texture that adheres well to the lips lasting for well over five hours.
A look at the color selection and descriptions as I see them
The Pinkprint – is a warm, light to medium coral pink with a hint of yellow undertones and has an Amplified finish.
Nicki’s Nude – is a warm, medium pink beige with soft peach undertones and has an Amplified finish.
Swatched on the arm
Swatched on the lips. For skin tone reference, I am not wearing any foundation and am completely barefaced here. My skin tone is medium with pink undertones. The swatches below feature one swipe and as you can see the payoff is incredible.
Bottom line, an impressive lipstick launch that is definitely worth checking out. Both are beyond gorgeous and perfect everyday colors. The formula performs really well and I am slightly obsessed with the sleek packaging, especially the rose gold. Aside from Nicki’s Nude and The Pinkprint, MAC is set to release an additional 24 Lipstick and Lipglass colors set to go live on 9/20 on MAC’s official website, and 9/21 at select retailers/counters.
