This Summer season, as the many that came before, my day-to-day eye formula consists less of powders and advocates more cream-based colors. With the Vegas heat in full force, there is no two ways of getting around enforcing virtually a complete meltproof, heatproof face, which I talked about in my recent meltproof makeup routine post right here. I find heartbreak in the fact that some days won’t permit me to wear any of my favorite powder eyeshadows, specifically my go-to palettes. Some days I might go ahead and cheat the system but in the end always learn my lesson that powders + sweat = don’t mix. Cream shadows tend to cake less in hot weather, plus look gorgeous when the sun hits them and they glisten so beautifully. While I have a set lineup of brands I turn to for all my cream shadow needs, a while back I discovered a brand new favorite in the Wander Beauty Exquisite Eye Liquid Shadow ($26 / 0.22 oz – 6.5 mL). These are travel-friendly, liquid format eyeshadows with radiant color for a range of day and night looks. This collection has a total of four colors available, I picked up three, including: Champagne, Bronze and Mocha, all of which are gorgeous neutrals.
The Exquisite Eye Liquid Shadow are richly pigmented, glide on seamlessly without creasing, fading, or smudging and are easy to blend, good for quick color application. I prefer to directly apply to the eyelid from the doe-foot applicator, and blend using either a brush or fingers, building with additional coats for a more dramatic effect. The formula allows ample time to diffuse edges or correct any mistakes, about five minutes, before setting from a liquid to a solid texture, almost like a cream-to-powder formula. This was my very first time testing a liquid eyeshadow and an initial concern I had was that the colors would come out with some degree of frost – I am happy to report that they are soft and luminous and give the prettiest glow to the complexion with wearable shimmer that has little to no fallout. Another concern I had was marrying multiples of the Exquisite Eye Liquid Shadows together with a possibility of them pilling especially once the formula of one sets while not done with the second shade. The smooth texture provided an equally smooth transition from one shade to the next and there was no pilling nor flaking when I applied a second color for one cohesive look. Alone these wear like a dream but can also function as a base for powder shadows as it adds to the blendability of the shadow as well as color intensity and longevity. On their own these have amazing lasting power, I clocked 11 hours one day and there was no fading, creasing, flaking nor did the color diminish in presence.
A look at the color selection and descriptions as I see them
Champagne – is a warm, light golden beige with subtle peach undertones
Bronze – is a warm, light to medium golden brown
Mocha – is a warm, medium brown with a hint of golden flecks
Swatched on the arm
Bottom line, these are solid performers. The eyeshadows are so quick and easy to apply, perfect for when you’re on-the-go or simply looking for a low maintenance, natural makeup look. They’re richly pigmented and super lightweight so it doesn’t feel like you are wearing anything on the lids. The colors can be sheered out for a light wash of color and are buildable to be layered for amping up the intensity as well as drama. If you don’t want a shiny/shimmery eyeshadow, then these might not be for you. Even when applied very sheer it has a very light shimmer/glow sheen. The formula is blendable but dries relatively quickly (about five minutes). All three colors are excellent choices because they are neutral in tone and the most versatile in terms of wearibility. They last forever, do not crease, have a subtle sparkle, are beautiful in color and ridiculously easy to work with, all-in-all, these are absolute game changers for me.
