Basic Summer Essentials

July 5, 2017

Born in the dead of Winter, I’m a sun child at heart. There’s nothing more I love than the Summer season and warm weather. It’s one of the main reasons I love Las Vegas so much because I just simply adore the sun. Plus, bonus points for the dry heat because I don’t do humidity. While I’m mostly fond of the almost year-round potential to wear flip-flops and general relaxing atmosphere, Summer to me is like the best time for beauty because it’s all about that effortlessly bronzed, sunkissed look. There have been quite a few new beauty launches that I have been loving as well as old favorites that I am revisiting. In that regard, currently I’m working on a couple of big seasonal roundups with most still in the testing phase for skincare, bath & body, hair, etc. Today, however, I have a roundup of what I consider to be my absolute bare basic Summer essentials – aka, the foundation staples of my sunny weather beauty routine. Each season I have a set of necessities I reach for to help me survive the weeks ahead, and today I wanted to share my Summer one with you babes!

An everyday sunscreen – the most important component in my daily routine is a good everyday SPF for the body. My winning brand, as always, has been Coola and their Sport Continuous Spray SPF 30 in Tropical Coconut. I have a full-size of this in my home and carry the travel-size in my purse at all times. I am proud to announce that I’ve become better at reapplying throughout the day as it virtually impossible to stay out of the sun and protection is a must. This is a lightweight spray that provides an even spritz of mist in a continuous spray and contains quite a bit of great skin benefiting properties. It does have alcohol in it which you can smell when you spray it on the skin, but the scent disappears quickly and you’re left with the sweet coconut scent. The fact that it’s spray-on is amazing for easy on-the-go application or to reach the backside area. It’s non-drying, non-irritating and leaves a nice, moisturized finish on the skin. To date, I have not once burned and sometimes I’m out in the sun for quite some time. I applaud Coola for their amazingly protective products.

A hydrating face mist – in between moisturizing sleep masks, water-infused day/night creams and sheet masks galore saturated in active ingredients, I’m a face mist junkie. There’s nothing quite like the relief of that instant spritz regardless if I went outside or not, and regardless if my skin feels thirsty or not. There have been two facial mists that I’ve obsessing over the last couple months and those include the Herbivore Rose Hibiscus Coconut Water Hydrating Face Mist, which I keep in a travel-size for my purse, and the Pearlessence Rose Water Hydrating Face Mist, which I keep in my bathroom. Both are amazingly refreshing skin quenchers which rehydrate the skin and provides a new glow.

A good lip balm – for the most part, during Spring and Summer I pretty much fully convert to glosses as well as lip balms, tinted or otherwise. While I recently provided a full Summer Lip Care guide that outlined the various lip balms I wear daily, there’s one that I’ve been especially loving, which is the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 in Sugar (untinted). This one has a super lush feel and is very easy to just swipe and go, keeping lips properly hydrated as well as protected for hours to come. It moisturizes, protects, and smooths the lips with real sugar delivering delectable and dependable moisture. The formula provides essential, year-round protection from damaging UV rays while soothing and softening the lips.

An eye care sheet mask – I will forever be loyal to the Belif First Aid 360 Eye Care Mask (reviewed here) as my holy grail cream-based eye mask, but during this time of year I gear up on sheet masks for the under-eyes to keep them ultra hydrated and moisturized. My general under-eye area has a natural tendency to run dry, always has and ever since I could remember, and during the Summer this tendency only enhances. While my current go-to eye cream in combination with the Belif Eye Care Mask has made tremendous strides to keep dryness under control, certain days just call for extra hydration. The Sephora Collection Eye Masks are my absolute favorite. They add the most moisture to my eye area out of all the masks I’ve tried which in return reduces the appearance of (fine) lines. The under eye area looks supple, smooth, nourished, even brightened and lifted, after using them. They also help to effectively reduce redness and puffiness. They really work wonders for this very delicate area and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is in search of the perfect eye patch treatment.

A nourishing hair oil – for the longest time I was on the hunt for some type of spray or oil to keep my hair hydrated and healthy in the heat without rendering it greasy. My search led me to Verb’s Ghost Oil. This has been both a game changer and saving grace keeping my hair from turning into perpetual straw due to sun exposure and severe dry heat. Ghost Oil is a transparent, restorative hair oil that revitalizes hair from roots to ends. The formula features an integrated moringa oil blend that coats the hair shaft with essential nutrients. This can be applied to both damp or dry hair. I personally love to work this through dry hair every single day. Literally after the first use my hair felt noticeably softer and so much smoother. Its very light and weightless but has incredible results. Hair looks healthier, shines brighter and I truly feel that it keeps the heat from drying out my strands, especially the ends. I’m on my second bottle so far and deem it of holy grail status.

That wraps up my top Summer essentials list. As I proceed to test and work on the larger roundups that will make their appearance in the next couple of weeks, I would love to hear what your immediate go-to Summer essentials are, which you can share below in the notes!
