Makeup Summer 2017

Nars Orgasm Collection

May 30, 2017

Capitalizing on the massive success of their cult classic powder blush, for Summer 2017 Nars has launched an entire Orgasm Collection offering the iconic shade in a variety of different forms that includes a never-seen-before lipstick as well as a liquid blush. There are 6 pieces available in the range all of which give the most natural luminous finish to the complexion, I have four items to share a review of today:

Up first is the one beauty product that needs no introduction, the original Orgasm Blush ($30 / 0.16 oz – 4.8 g) outfitted in a collectible limited edition compact just for this collection. The same “universally flattering” peachy pink with golden flecks never seizes to amaze and adds a natural wash of color that is easy to layer and build with the same attitude from the permanent line. It has a soft sheen but is still notoriously laden with golden shimmer, nonetheless, it remains a classic shade perfectly suitable for everyday wear. There appears to be no difference in actual color proportions, finish nor wear time between this compact compared to an Orgasm from the permanent line. That being said, I did notice a slight shift in texture. Orgasm from the permanent line comes with an incredibly soft and smooth texture versus the new version which appears to feel packed harder and a lot stiffer. Application still goes seamless but picking up product from the pan has become a bit challenging. I advise that if you’re looking to restock or invest in the Orgasm shade to actually opt for the permanent line version instead of this one.

Here’s a look at the limited edition packaging

I try to keep in mind that my existing blush is older and completely worked in because I use it so much – that being said, I don’t remember having this much trouble picking up product when I first got the compact as new a few months ago

Next up is the Orgasm Liquid Blush ($30 / 0.5 fl oz – 15 mL). One of the most exciting launches from this collection, the liquefied song of Orgasm is perfect for that Summer dew with a long-lasting formula that glides on effortlessly for natural-looking coverage. In line with its powder brethren, the shade takes on life as a warm, medium pink with yellow undertones and has golden shimmer but in comparison to the Orgasm powder is very toned down. It has semi- sheer to medium yet buildable coverage. Consistency is very lightweight and fluid, but not so watery to where you have no control over blending nor application. I found that the substance spread very easily across the skin while still offering a good amount of color pigment. The blush can be applied on top of or underneath other products as it performs really well in both scenarios and does so without disturbing any base layers. For a liquid blush, which I’ve personally never been a fan of, I found this very easy to work with. I like to use my fingers for blending or if I’m in a rush of course my trusted Beautyblender comes into play. The formula does dry down quickly but still gives ample time for blending and buffing before it sets into a luminous, glowy finish. It does dry down all the way but does not feel fixed into place. Lasting power is quite excellent, the blush wears over nine hours on me.

Orgasm Satin Lipstick ($28 / 0.12 oz – 3.4 g) is an incredibly gorgeous color and is permanent to the Nars family. This is a warm, medium pink and has a fine golden pearl mixed in. The texture is really smooth and quite rich with a lustrous semi- sheer coverage that is easily buildable to medium coverage. Formula-wise, I found the base to be quite thin and emollient but it has no slip to it and wears very comfortably with a slight hydrating factor. Depending on if you layer for more color, the finish of the lipstick can translate almost to a metallic but I suspect that it is really a iridescence factor even though it acts like a true cream formula on the lips. For a mostly sheer-based lip product I find that it does have ample wear time lasting for about three hours.

Lastly is the Orgasm Lip Gloss ($26 / 0.18 oz – 6 mL). This is a fresh Spring to Summer shade that give lips a sheer, ultra smooth wash of color. It’s a warm peachy pink with golden shimmer and has a high-shine finish. The texture is quite thin and somewhat tacky but overall comfortable to wear. It has sheer to semi- opaque color coverage and despite it being a primarily lighter color I had no settling issues, not even in my deeper lip lines which is where most glosses tend to navigate towards. On its own the wear time is very decent for a sheer-based gloss, lasting a little less than four hours. In combination with the Orgasm Lipstick it lasts for about five.

Overall there’s lots to love in this collection – especially those looking for a natural, luminous complexion. I am completely in love and addicted to Nars products so I found it necessary to purchase most of the Orgasm items. I’ve owned the powder blush from the permanent line for a long time and I find the peachy pink tone quite universal – this is literally the only blush that I keep repurchasing because I find it that good. If I had to pick just one of the items, I would say that I can’t because I really like all of them. While the Orgasm powder blush is considered a “universally flattering” shade, not everyone is necessarily a fan of the heavy degree of golden shimmer accompanied. I think the Liquid Blush would be the best option if you’re glow/shimmer conscious because it adds the most natural luminous quality in blush form since the gold particles are toned way down versus its powder counterpart.

The Orgasm Collection is available at Nars boutiques as well as their official website. You can find pieces individually at Sephora as well as Nordstrom.
