Chanel has launched a new limited-edition highlighter called Camelia de Chanel Illuminating Powder ($70 / 0.21 oz – 6 g). Previously only available to Europe and other parts of the world, this stunning elegant piece has finally arrived in the U.S. I first discovered the highlighter a few months back on Instagram and was literally blown away by the swatches that were available as it’s out of this world beautiful. Ever since then I’ve been actively stalking any potential release dates to the States and was beyond thrilled to find out it was launching late January this year. Camelia de Chanel is currently exclusive to Chanel.com and select Chanel boutiques. The highlighter is presented in a special edition red lacquered case which comes with a half-moon brush and is artfully embossed in Chanel’s signature iconic Camelia detailing. At first glance this seems like it’s just another pretty beige/champagne highlighter – however, I do believe due to the mix of prism-like shimmers with its neutral champagne tone the highlighter gives a truly amazing effect on the face. It births the perfect lit-from-within glow that is not super subtle but is not over-the-top overpowering either so it’s not just your standard champagne frost highlighter.
According to Chanel, Camelia de Chanel is “a sheer highlighting powder that captures and reflects light for a delicate, luminous glow.” It has a creamy and velvety smooth texture that while appears to be a finely milled powder, upon swatched on the arm or blended into the skin contains micro shimmer particles that are slightly bigger than true finely milled shimmers. The color is a neutral champagne that is neither too warm nor too cold and blends in perfectly with my medium complexion without adding much color to it. The pigment is quite intense but can easily be blended out for a more diffused look. It gives a silky, satin finish with a few sweeps across the high-points of the face and softly reflects light that adds a luminous glow with a hint of dewiness that is simply beyond breathtaking.

A look at the special edition lacquered case
To conclude, I absolutely did not want to fall in love with a $70 highlighter but Chanel has managed to create the perfect champagne highlighter. On my medium skin tone many neutral-toned highlighters, especially champagne tones, tend to pull very frosty with the silver shimmers they are infused with generating such a stark contrast that they are not wearable. Camelia de Chanel Illuminating Powder, while at first glance appears to a be a true champagne, depending on what light I hold it in has a stunning mixture of roses, golds and beiges that gives this more dimension in color and delivers a lively glow to the face mimicking a second-skin effect that blends in seamlessly. Compared to previous Chanel highlighter releases, this one is on-par in terms of overall quality with a smooth texture, amazing pigment and excellent longevity lasting from morning until evening without fading or pulling patchy. That being said, this is definitely one of the more sparkly highlighters to date from Chanel than those who came prior but I love a good glow and this highlighter is what my dreams are made of! It’s pure love for me and I even purchased a backup because I don’t know when it will be discontinued and at this point I seriously cannot live without it. So gorgeous!
Camelia de Chanel Illuminating Powder retails for $70 and is exclusively available online at Chanel.com and select Chanel boutiques.
