Summer Skin All Year Round

Having lived in Las Vegas for most of my life, one of the main noticeable changes that I have witnessed has been the weather and the seasons. For the past couple of years it has increasingly gotten more scorching hot during the Summer while the Winters hold significant temperature drops and a good dose of gray skies on the daily. While us Vegans (pronounced Vay-gans, not vee-gans) rejoice at the sight of double digits under 70, when the temperature starts to drop and the weather steadily becomes colder, it also means your skin can quickly lose its luster due to dry air. With less moisture in the air, skin dries out a lot quicker and loses any and all radiance it once had over Summer. With that being said, Winter does not mean you have to give up that healthy Summer glow. Today I’ve gathered some of my favorite products that get the blood flowing and inject both life and color back into my skin on both my body and of course the face!

Body Polish

A new favorite that I’ve only recently discovered is the Herbivore Coco Rose Coconut Oil Body Polish ($36 / 8.0 oz – 226 g), which has become a bathroom fixture thanks to its hydrating powers and for leaving the skin revitalized and super smooth. This contains a highly moisturizing and gently exfoliating blend of virgin coconut oil and delicately floral Moroccan rose to leave skin soft and hydrated. It exfoliates really well removing dead skin cells unveiling skin that glows and looks nourished. It has a nice emollient base which makes it easy to navigate any area of the body without leaving a greasy film. Bonus, the light scent of coconut oil mixed with rose petals is absolutely heavenly.

Body Oil

To date I have little experience with body oils simply because I have always thought of oils as greasy and too heavy in texture. Thanks to the recommendations of a few reviews I read online I decided to test the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Purpose Dry Oil which I so happened to have a couple of samples laying around of. The Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse oil is designed as a multi-purpose product for face, body and hair. I’ve only it tested on the body and hair thus far. I found it perfect for both the body and hair although when it comes to the hair product should be used sparingly as it can become a bit too heavy. This oil absorbs quickly into the skin and had a tad of slip to the texture. For the body, the oil can be a little thicker in consistency and takes a good 10 minutes to completely dry down but does not leave a greasy residue. After application the body feels amazing and looks moisturized with a gorgeous soft sheen.

Body Tan

While I tan fairly quickly, especially in the Summer when I can turn up to 2 shades darker, I’m not a massive sun or tanning girl. I lather up on SPF  (face and body) all year round but tend to stay out of the sun as much as possible as I’m not a fan of the damaging effects it can have on the skin for the long-term. I just like to look like I’ve got some life and color in my skin which is why I use a gradual self-tanning lotion all year long. A while ago I actually replaced my trusted Jergens for the Sarah McNamara Miracle Body Transformer ($34 / 3.38 oz) in the shade Bronze. I found this product while browsing Nordstrom and have absolutely fallen in love with it. This self-tanner is great to build a base if you want an all-over darker look and is moisturizing enough to use on a regular basis. The formula is so gentle and has a pleasant smell that does not have that strong chemical odor that is often associated with self-tanning products. It also does not turn my skin orange or yellow. There is no streaking or transferring to clothing, furniture, car upholstery or bed sheets, which is a huge plus. It’s kind of on the expensive side for the amount of product but it’s so worth it once you see the results.

Facial Cleanser

My life and skin have not been the same ever since I started incorporating the adorable Foreo Luna Play (reviewed here) into my routine. I have been absolutely obsessing over this macaroon-sized device. It helps unclog pores, gently removes dead skin cells and helps makes my skin look more radiant. Also, it has improved some texture issues that I’ve had for years on the apples of my cheeks. I use the Luna Play twice a week in combination with their Night Cleanser. On the days where I don’t use the device to cleanse my skin, I turn to another new-found favorite, the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser ($10 – $19.50 / 2.5 oz – 5.0 oz). I haven’t used this in so many years but I’m beyond excited to have rediscovered it again. This is a gentle liquid formula that cleanses without over-drying or stripping the skin. It’s a really good daily mild cleanser that is super gentle. It’s effective enough to use every day without stripping the skin. Among other skin improving derivatives, it contains apricot kernel oil that moisturizes and softens the skin while helping retain clarity and suppleness. Avocado oil helps restore skin’s natural moisture; and squalane, Kiehl’s signature ingredient, keeps skin extra soft and supple. For me, this one is pure love and I have a strong feeling that now I have rediscovered it again I will most likely be repurchasing it for a while to come.

Facial Exfoliator

The Clearly Corrective Skin Brightening Exfoliator ($29 / 4.2 oz) is one of Kiehl’s best-selling scrubs. It has white birch extract that increases skin’s elasticity levels and collagen production resulting in restored skin density, volume and thickness, and peony extract works with activated vitamin C to facilitate the reversal of discoloration for skin clarity. For 30 seconds I will gently massage it all over the face in an upward and outward circular motion, avoiding the eye area, then rinse with cold water. I was hesitant at first straying from my tried and true Bliss Micro Magic, however, it’s gentle enough for my temperamental skin. So far I’ve been using this once a week for the last couple of months and I really like it as I’ve been seeing some significant results in the suppleness and overall texture of my skin.

Facial Masks

As you guys know, I go hard for a good sheet mask. Sheet masks are amazing for instantly revitalizing your skin and not to mention pump your face full of hydration that translates into a beautiful, natural healthy glow. By now there’s probably a sheet mask to address any kind of skin concern you can think of, but I’m really in love with the Sephora Collection Lotus, Orchid and Rose sheet masks. Each of these masks are infused with a different active ingredient for relaxing the skin and achieving a brighter, more revitalized complexion. Just leave the mask on for 15 minutes and gentle peel off to unveil luminous, younger-looking, hydrated and radiant skin!

Facial Moisturizer

When it comes my daily skincare, my main focus is on finding items that are anti-aging and that will help maintain the skin’s natural glow. One of my everyday go-to, never will I give you up, is of course the Murad Advanced Acne & Wrinkle Reducer which I’ve talked so much about on here. While this is the main proprietor in my everyday routine, I have been falling a little short in the actual daytime moisturizer department – and so, I’ve been testing quite a few samples hoarded away in my sample stash bag in the pursuit of finding a daily cream that provides anti-aging components as well as help maintain my skin’s natural glow. L’Occitane Immortelle Divine Cream is perhaps one of the most impressive skincare items I’ve tried in a long while. With persistent use this cream has proven to be quite instrumental to transforming the overall complexion, especially in restoring my skin’s natural radiance which can be affected by a number of outside factors on a daily basis. The cream is an anti-aging formula and designed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, leaving the skin smooth and luminous. It’s a nice lightweight moisturizer that has a smooth texture with a slight natural scent. It kind of smells like a blooming garden but softer and sweeter. I love how my skin glows and how hydrated it makes my face look and feel. That being said, I’m kind of scared of the $110 price tag for the 1.7 oz/ 50 mL full size. In all honesty, I’ve never spent even remotely that close to a skincare product and while I do deem this beyond worthy, it’s such a splurge.

And there you have it! The skincare and bath & body products that help me beat dull skin and maintain that Summer glow all year round even when the skies are gray! Do you have any glow-inducing products you swear by? Let me know below!
