Today I’m talking to you about the masks I have in rotation right now. Winter weather usually means my skin starts to feel dry or lacking in luster and the best way to remedy that and help improve my skin’s moisture levels, texture, clarity and the way it looks and feels overall is by indulging in weekly mask treatments. First, a bit of background. When it comes to masks, or in regards to any skin and bath & body care in general, preferences and recommendations are split between what your skin type is and the treatment that you are seeking. For me, I LIVE for sheet masks. They are a luxurious, rejuvenating experience that leaves my skin feeling re-energized, renewed and not to mention induces a glow that is unparalleled in comparison to other mask types. Packed with hydration, restorative ingredients, anti-aging proprieties, and more, these one-time use masks are a step to be incorporated after washing and toning with your everyday skincare routine. The individual fiber sheets are soaked in various beauty ingredients and are shaped to hug facial contours for maximum impact. Although they may resemble a slightly odd version of Jason’s hockey mask and you may look anything but cute in it, these mask deliver full/high doses of key product in a short amount of time with better penetration of its active elements.
I very first discovered sheet masks back in 2014 by way of Sephora’s own in-house Face Mask collection and was instantly blown away by not only the results of how my complexion looked afterwards, but how amazing my skin felt as well. Ever since then, the Sephora line of Face Masks has been the only tried and true treatments I keep in rotation at all times. I love how effective these masks are and the actual immediate results they portray – so you can only imagine my excitement when Sephora elaborated on their mask lineup by incorporating individual varieties for the hands, feet, lips and eyes. For this post, I rounded up a few of my favorites that I keep stocked up on (depending on how my skin feels at a certain time or what I perceive it may need a little extra of) for a little Sunday “me time” each week.
Up first are two moisturizing sheet face masks. I will start with my most favorite which is the Rose Mask. Sephora has 8 total to choose from all targeting various skin issues or concerns, I’ve tested 6 of them and it was pure love the first time I tried this one. The Rose Mask is formulated to provide deep moisture and brightening properties through natural rose extract. With this mask, skin looks instantly brightened and feels ultra soft and plump afterwards. My complexion looks and feels noticeably hydrated and refreshed, and I can definitely feel the moisture without any greasy residue while the skin simply glows. Fine lines are minimized and other imperfections seemingly become blurred, my complexion appears in one word, flawless, after using it. I define this product as one of my transformative and life changing skincare attributes, and for $6 I think it’s one of the best discoveries I’ve ever made in my life.
Another good moisturizing mask is the Lotus Face Mask. This one is formulated to lock in water to reduce the signs of fatigue and strain for a stress-free and rested appearance. It’s kind of like an all-in-one mask and I think it works wonders to repair and revive the skin. I do get stressed quite often through work and the aftermath definitely translates onto my face by way of my complexion lacking in luster and glow, dark circles become more emphasized, all-in-all, I look almost sickly and extremely exhausted, even if I don’t actually feel like that. When I have endured a week filled with an unhealthy portion of stress, I will pop one of the Lotus masks on and the skin feels smooth and looks noticeably brighter after using it. Skin is balanced and looks very radiant. Overall, each time I notice that the signs of fatigue are reduced drastically as I appear more awake not just to myself, but to my coworkers as well.
Next up is the Ginseng Sleeping Mask. Sephora released quite an impressive 11-piece selection of sleeping masks all of which target various skin issues, concerns and common problems. This is a line of rich cream-gel textured sleeping masks, each with a skin refreshing benefit. Each of these masks is infused with a different active ingredient for relaxing the skin and achieving a brighter, more revitalized complexion. The luxurious cream-gel texture melts into skin for penetration of the active ingredients while you sleep. Normally I never partake in applying a nightly cream onto my face, except for my trusted Murad Advanced Acne & Wrinkle Reducer, let alone leaving a mask on overnight. That being said, every once in a while I feel like my skin could use an added pick-me-up, and that’s when I turn to the Ginseng Sleeping Mask. This is formulated to provide a tightening effect while toning for a supple, fresh, and energized complexion. This one needs a very thin layer, if you apply too much it won’t dry properly and will be difficult to wash off in the morning. Or in my case, I tone in lieu of cleansing. After using it the skin glows and feels lifted. It also works really well to help calm agitated skin and reduce redness around certain parts of the face. In spite of my fears that having product on my face overnight would cause me to break out, this has surprisingly performed really well and has added a new element to my masking routine. I highly recommend it.
Sephora has also launched a collection of natural fiber eye masks, each with specific skin care benefits. I keep shifting between the Orchid and Avocado Eye Mask, the latter which is formulated to offer intense nutrition for a supple, soothed, and comforted eye contour. I have natural laugh and squint lines carved around my eyes, so finding products to reduce the appearance of such has proven quite complex since not many seem to perform that well. This one though, has been a game changer for me. It adds the most moisture to my eye area out of all the masks I’ve tried which in return reduces the appearance of (fine) lines. The under eye area looks supple, smooth, nourished, even brightened and lifted, after using it. It also helps to effectively reduce redness and puffiness. It really works wonders for this very delicate area and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is in search of the perfect eye patch treatment.
Prior to discovering these, I had never experimented with an actual lip mask as I simply did not see the need in it. Usually my tried and true Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment does an amazing job keeping my lips moisturized, smooth, soft and supple – however, this is the second Winter where my lips have become painfully dry. Whether it’s due to the weather shifting so much, going from cold to hot and vice versa, or perhaps unbeknownst to me I’m licking my lips a lot more, this is the time of year where all of my lip treatments just seize to perform on a long-term note. Calling on the Sephora Lip Mask as reinforcement was the best decision I made thus far as it offers instant relief to my dry pout. The Rose mask moisturizes and softens, improving the texture of my lip surface with a smoother feel instead of flaky or scratchy. This mask in combination with the Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy has become my go-to lip treatment of the moment.
Sephora also has a line of hand care treatments, each with a different benefit, that offers 15 minutes of pure bliss. Inspired by Asian beauty rituals, the Sephora Collection hand masks provide an effective solution to meet every need. The single pair of non-drip, coated gloves will take care of your hands as you continue what you’re doing. Each offers a skin-enhancing benefit. At first I was quite unsure about the rather very awkwardly oversized gloves in terms of that they would be able to properly administer the active ingredients where they were necessary – after first use this became the ultimate spa experience for me. Due to my line of work, the weather and the fact I wash or purify my hands what feels like 100 x a day, my hands are extremely rough on certain days causing skin to split open even. Usually a deep treatment with one of my go-to hand creams will remedy the situation, however, this weather has them a bit more dryer than usual. I opted for the Avocado Mask because it’s formulated to offer intense nutrition to nourish and soothe hands. Albeit that the Aloe Vera Mask offers intense moisture for beautiful hands, I needed something that would repair them at the same time. My hands have never felt softer nor looked healthier using this treatment. It delivers hydration and offers instant relief on trouble spots with quick absorption time. The serum has the most wonderful refreshing clean feeling without leaving a greasy film and is gentle enough to where it doesn’t irritate cuts from where my skin has split open. After using, both my hands and cuticles almost look clarified but most important of all, feel super moisturized and comfortable.
My feet are definitely the most neglected in terms of bath & body care. I will perform monthly at-home pedicures and pretty much leave it at that. When I found out that Sephora launched a line of foot masks, I couldn’t help but be intrigued since I love all the other versions they’ve put out. These soothing and comforting single-use socks each offer a targeted active ingredient to nourish, relax, and address foot concerns. Since my feet don’t necessarily have one particular concern, I rotate between the two versions on a monthly basis. My favorite though has to be the Lavender mask, simply because I love the smell of lavender. The Lavender mask alleviates fatigue and aching feet with a soothing and refreshing effect thanks to lavender extract and menthol. These are very easy to use, just slip them on and go about your business. Feet are noticeably hydrated afterwards and feel much softer … like they underwent an actual professional pedicure instead of my homegrown session. The serum does not leave a greasy or slippery film behind so no worries about testing gravity at some point. It wasn’t until I started using the foot masks that I actually noticed how considerably more rebalanced and soothed my feet have become. Previously I would massage some lotion into them and thought it as more than enough – however, this has shown me how much more refreshed they can get. Also, I never exactly knew what the term “tired feet” meant until the mask relieved them to a degree that I never felt my feet were as light as they ever been before.
