Nars has been killing it this year. With so many amazing launches across the board, there were quite a few items to fall in love with and proven a great level of difficulty for me to manage my excitement. So far I’ve done a pretty decent job containing myself and was able to not throw my entire bank account at every new piece entering the beautysphere. I have had some Nars bits that were accumulated over the course of a couple of months that I have yet to swatch and review for you guys – among them are the Velvet Lip Glides ($26 / 0.20 fl oz). There are 12 shades of Velvet Lip Glides available ranging from sultry neutrals to daring bolds – since I was ordering mine sight unseen I opted for the safe colors which include Stripped and Unlaced.
Created with an innovative hybrid formula that marries the comfortable coating of a lip gloss and the finish of a lipstick, the Velvet Lip Glides are highly saturated, richly pigmented lip colors that provide ultimate hydration and long-lasting wear. They have a smooth, non-sticky consistency with a weightless feel that glides product effortlessly onto the lips achieving strong color coverage in just a few swipes. Texture is a bit on the thick side but nothing discernible and in fact I find that due to the lusher texture that lips appear more plump and fuller-looking with a glossy sheen that identifies to that of an actual lip gloss. Their finish is described as a “semi-matte”, but on initial swipe they maintain a creamy sheen until about hour 3 where the finish develops into a velvety one instead. Wear time is about 3 hours with average sipping and snacking. The formula has a slight vanilla scent to it but has no immediate detectable taste to me. I personally like to wear both shades on their own as well as over a base product because they add the best kind of shine to enhance any lipstick or liner color.
A look at the color selection
Stripped – is described as a beige pink but to me reads as a light to medium beige with slight pink undertones.
Unlaced – is described as a nude pink but to me reads as a warm light to medium pink.
Swatched on the arm
Bottom line, I absolutely love these and I highly recommend picking up a shade or two. I always have at least one of them in my purse. On average I would say that I wear Stripped the most, because it’s the perfect creamy nude that literally goes with everything. While these have a somewhat thick texture, I find that the non-sticky consistency and the inherent plumping effect definitely makes up for that. These have enough pigment to wear on their own, but in combination with a base product only makes them 10x better. 2 huge thumbs up!
