theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer® Highlighting Powder

Oh, Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighting Powder by theBalm, how I have missed you. I can’t believe I’ve gone this long without replenishing this cult favorite highlighter after I came in like a wrecking ball and destroyed it down the last bits of powder left in the pan. It’s good to have her back and playing a regular part in my highlighting game again. For those of you already familiar with the cheeky-named highlighter, the holy grail status is real and justified. For those of you who have never had the joy of playing around with it, the fuss behind this highlighter is everything everyone has said it is. Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighting Powder ($24 / 0.3 oz) is a highlighter, shadow and shimmer rolled into one, and can be applied to the high-points of the face for a natural-looking highlight or could also function to play a part in an eyeshadow look. The focus of the formula is to diffuse light so skin looks smoother and more youthful with a subtle glow. But don’t let the claim of “subtle glow” fool you, this seemingly innocent highlighter can go from 0 to 100 in strength real quick once you start building layers. Take my word for it, there’s a reason why I’ve said in the past that this fierce complexion accessory can be seen from space.

Mary-Lou Manizer is a powder highlighter that is described as a honey-hued luminizer, but to me reads as a warm champagne color with golden undertones. The texture is buttery smooth and soft that blends effortlessly and invisibly into the skin for a natural, luminous finish. The formula is indeed subtle when using a light hand, but when coming in hot it instantly amps up the color deposit and it does not take much for this pigmented highlighter to be visible on the skin. The sheen is strong in this one (without looking frosty) and contains little to no shimmer particles.

The color itself is absolutely beautiful. I love the mix of champagne with warm and golden undertones because it makes my skin glow in such a soft, stunning way. I think this specific highlighter is a universally flattering one and would look gorgeous regardless of skin tone. On me it wore well over the 10 hour mark without fading or losing any sort of intensity. My application during those days where I used the Mary-Lou Manizer was performed with a light hand because you all know I love a good natural highlight. I have not worn this once at full capacity but I can only imagine the lasting power with all systems go.

I have been playing with this highlighter for many of the days since I repurchased it and cannot get enough of it. Again. I love that it mimics that youthful glow by softening the skin which can become an addicting side-effect from using this frequently. Although this a good highlighter to own no matter the season, for Summer I find this one particularly appropriate based on the entire color and sheen outfit. If you are hesitant towards wearing liquids or cream-based products for Summer, I recommend this as a good substitute for a liquid/cream highlighter since the powder almost looks like a cream when sitting on the skin. I give this a huge thumbs up. It’s inexpensive and worth to have as a staple in your collection.
