I have been using the Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Peel Pads for close to two solid years now, and I cannot say enough positive things about the product. In short, it’s an exfoliating peel that promotes natural cell turnover, in the same breath it hydrates the skin and protects it from environmental damage. Not easy to find in a facial peel, and I can honestly attest that it’s worth every penny. But there may be just one issue preventing most who try the product from putting it to its fullest potential, and that is a misguided perception on how to use it. The common mistake is that most will take the entire pad and sweep it across their face – this is not just the quasi- wrong way to use it, but you’re also flushing $45 down the drain because you can actually turn those 60 pads into 240. Here’s how:
1. Take 1 pad and using scissors cut the pad into 4 equal pieces, repeat this with every pad you take out. This just quadrupled your stash. One piece is all you need to cover your face, neck, chest area and tops of the hands, one pad is too much.
2. On a clean face, take 1 piece and gently press it onto the skin first. Pressing first will deposit more product into the skin and start the accurate breakdown of the formula. After you pressed it onto the face, neck, décolleté, and top of your hands, gently swipe the pad on aforementioned areas. Now leave on for at least 1 minute, going upwards to 3.
3. Rinse thoroughly using lukewarm water using circular motions to neutralize the peel. Pat dry.
If you feel slight tingling or see dead skin coming off, don’t stress because this is normal.
4. You can use it on its own but I advise to follow up with your serum and cream to moisture the skin.
After-peel care: This is a highly effective peel and it is recommended that you use a sunscreen afterwards to protect your skin from damage. Never leave the house without applying SPF prior to makeup. If you don’t know which day cream to pick for this purpose, here’s a post I wrote on the subject.
Precautions for different skin types:
-Dry Skin: Start with one or two times a week and build up to four to five times a week; if well tolerated; may use one to two times daily.
-Normal Skin: Start with three times per week and build up to daily use; may use twice daily.
-Oily Skin: Start with daily use; may use twice daily.
