I have never made it a point to talk about my own current foundation routine, or more so the “base” routine. Basically, a base routine is the overall canvas you lay down before or after you apply eyeshadow and of the sort – the bare essentials. Without further ado, I’ll get right to it.
Nothing constitutes the start of my day like my everyday staple and all-time favorite face primer, the Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer – I solemnly swear by this stuff. Before I start slathering on the makeup and after I perform my entire morning skincare routine, I heat up a tiny amount of the primer between my fingers and pat the primer into my skin as opposed to smearing because this will break down the product quicker and penetrates the skin better. Always allow your primer to sit for a generous 5-10 minutes before starting in with any cosmetic product, this gives the primer a chance to create a real barrier between your bare skin and what you’re about to apply – serving to protect it better.
Foundation standbys as of right now include the Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Foundation and the beloved Revlon Colorstay Makeup. Beloved because I mean, how can you hate a souped-up drugstore product? Since we are after all very deep into Winter, I reverted from the Smashbox back to Revlon to suit my skin tone the best because it is at its palest right now. Plus, the coverage is amazing which allows me to cover up these annoying acne scars I have been left with from the cystic acne bout. Hoping by the time it’s starting to ease into Spring these demons will be diminished so I can start using the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation again, or a.k.a. heaven on the skin especially if you’re all about that glow.
Of course, not a day goes, or rather say can’t, go by without the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, it’s part of the ritual. This concealer neutralizes the under-eye area as well as blemishes giving great coverage keeping skin looking fresh and natural, never creases or meets its crepiness fate. Because I’m going through a matte phase right now, I set the under-eye area with the NYX Set It Don’t Fret It Matte Finishing Powder – which another thing I can’t wait for that comes with Spring, the Nars Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder. Keeping my brows always looking on fleek and as natural as possible is the Anastiasia Dipbrow Pomade, it’s absolutely fantastic for better shaping the arches and doesn’t fade throughout the day. Also, for me it’s the quickest way to do my brows every day. To add more life to my face I use the Nars Bronzer in Laguna for an instant warm-up and channel a little flush of color with the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Mirage. And as the piece de resistance, the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle for a luxurious finish on the highpoints of the face.
