I love a good drugstore find just as much as the next girl, but every once in a while I will definitely splurge on something just because. Hey, you gotta treat yo’ self, right? Sometimes my luxury indulgences pay off, other times they don’t, and I know firsthand how easy it is to get swept up in the hype of a product only to never live up to its investment. Especially when it comes to makeup. So luckily, since I have tried quite the array of products over the years much to my bank’s dismay, I’m sharing today which makeup splurges are worth every single penny and totally live up to the hype.
1. Urban Decay – Naked Palette, $54
The ultimate neutral standby, the holy grail of eyeshadow palettes. The Naked Palette’s lineup of both matte and shimmery shades cater perfectly to every occasion and whatever time of day with an array of finishes. Options are endless with this palette, specifically for those who love earth tones.
2. Lorac – PRO Palette, $42
While we’re on the subject of holy grail eyeshadow palettes, I’m moving on to my other-in-command, the Lorac PRO Palette. Containing 16 shades, 8 matte and 8 shimmer, the super-blendable shades are superbly pigmented but take on new life once you use them wet. Just by adding water you turn the 16-shade investment into a 32-shade payoff. This palette I would recommend over anything else, it’s completely priceless and utterly necessary.
3. Nars – Blush in Orgasm, $30
It should be noted that while the Orgasm shade is not a universal color and guaranteed to flatter every skin tone, it should be noted that this highly pigmented, long-lasting shadow in any of the colors available would be an amazing contributor to your look. Nars blushes are my personal favorite because they are SO worth the investment.
4. Giorgio Armani – Luminous Silk Foundation, $62
Every guru’s favorite, this is an amazing foundation to have in your arsenal if you’re not oily or combination skin. It’s a dewy formula that might turn into an oil-slick on those cursed (blessed?) with oily skin. Foundation should always be the number 1 investment of your makeup collection and little should be spared to achieve the ultimate canvas. It’s a severely expensive hobby to maintain ringing in at 62 flappers but once you pop, you can’t stop. This is the type of foundation that should be reserved for special occasions but worth every dollar.
5. Bobbi Brown – Shimmer Brick collection, $44 ea
Not really considered cult favorites, they are immensely popular. Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Bricks are some of the best bronzers, highlighters and eyeshadows all in one that you will ever use. 3 in 1, see? Triple for the money. For that just enough amount of natural glow the collection is absolutely bar none in the pigment, blending and finish departments.
6. Tom Ford – Lip Color, $50
Besides the very popular YSL gold tube packaging, Tom Ford’s lipstick collection is very much coveted. And I can say with every ounce of pain echoing from my wallet that they are AMAZING. Never have I encountered a lipstick that is so creamy, so hydrating, so pigmented and long-lasting from any other brand. This is definitely a luxury buy, and I can truly only afford 1 at a time, but its high concentration of pigment has the best deposit and color payoff than any you’ll ever find at the drugstore.
7. Nars – Radiant Creamy Concealer, $29
Custard is the overlord from the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer lineup, but I will assure you that every shade is formulated just the same as now the cult favorite. This has been the only concealer ever to cover my circles without creasing, does not fade, stays on for literally forever, with the added benefit that it moisturizes the skin as opposed to drying it out. Love this, it’s an absolute must-have in my book.
8. Beautyblender – The Original Beautyblender, $19.95
While not exactly a makeup product, as an application tool it does play a very pivotal part in how the overall finish of your polished visage translates to the world. Previously I used a brush to apply my concealer but have not done so since I purchased the Beautyblender. It gives an amazing natural finish when used damp that is unlike the appearance a brush could ever give you. Not even your fingers could give this flawless of a finish.
9. Too Faced – Soleil Matte Bronzer, $30
The end-all, be-all to a perfect contour. Yes, the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil is as good as everyone announces it is. A contour is not a good contour unless it is done so with a matte shade, and there’s no trace of shimmer to be found in this formula. Besides that it’s great for contouring, it also works beautifully for just an all-over warm glow without that awful orange undertone many other bronzers can have.
