It’s not very often that I can proclaim a highlighter as a favorite. I tend to use a wide variety of highlighters/illuminators over the course of a year because there are so many to try, and it should also be noted that I am beyond picky. So while there is a sizeable pool of highlighters I like, not many make it to the favorites list. For one, highlighters are not universal whatsoever and many contain undertones that do not necessarily compliment a range of skin tones. And more importantly, some contain so much sheen and feel so heavy that it only provides a very unnatural finish. I am all for a dewy, glowy visage, but I’m not down with looking like a shiny slip-n-slide.
Recently I finally caved in and purchased the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal, a golden opal pearl shade, simply because the internet has been going crazy over it for the last few months. Normally I would never follow the lead of the majority based on hype alone, it requires a good bit of science on my part before making a purchase – however, I’m glad I did follow because this highlighter has become my latest obsession. And using the word obsession is quite rare for me so you already know that it’s going to be good.
A highlighter that could suffice in the Summer months as well, due to its champagne/beige nature with a frosty finish the pearl shade teeters more towards and definitely reflects the Fall/Winter seasons the best. A beautiful, soft highlighter that induces instant luminosity, I love how the shade gives a healthy, glowy appearance without the notorious disco ball effect many highlighters can tend to leave behind. The product is intensely pigmented, intensely, and believe me when I say that a little goes a long way. Lyrical genius over here. Your hand and application tool are very key in the application process and I caution you to dip a dense brush ever-so lightly into the pan to start off minimal because you can always layer up. Although I would not layer up too much because it can emphasize pores immensely. Normally I use a fan brush to apply my powdered highlighters but for this specific one I had to switch using this contouring brush instead to really buff the product into the skin in order to achieve that luminous finish. Trust me, once you find that perfect butter zone for the application you won’t be able to get enough of it. The formula itself feels very lightweight so it doesn’t feel like it’s suffocating the skin after sitting there for prolonged hours. I have worn this for 10 hours and it was about that hour that it slowly started fading, however never became patchy, chalky or creased and settled. I cannot imagine not having this highlighter in my collection at this point, absolutely amazing!
