It can be hard to get excited about new lipstick releases. For me at least. At the end of the day I can never seem to find a shade that compliments me, or at least those are the psychosomatic technical difficulties haunting me each time I’m trying to step outside of my box. Which can also make it difficult to spend upwards of $30 on even some of the best dubbed lipsticks on the market. When NYX came out with their Butter Lipstick line, I was not hesitant to quickly buy a few shades because they’re very decently priced ($5.99), and what better way to get your feet wet than with a good starter set? 22 Shade range that goes from light to dark, I snatched up 4 shades in total, all neutral of course, that weren’t too shockingly bright except for the bold pink one which I still have mixed feelings over.
As the name already says it, these lipsticks go on like budda. The creamy formulae is very unique with a smooth finish, not to mention feels lightweight which sits better on the pucker. Depending from shade to shade, the pigmentation can be quite temperamental as the bolder pink color only requires one swipe to cover the lip, and the nude shades required more application for a full color effect. So to me it seemed the colored ones were quite more pigmented than the straight neutrals. In contrast to a lot of creamy formulas, these lipsticks didn’t seem to fade as quick and lasted for about 2,5 hours before I needed a full re-application.
The packaging pisses me off though, the tube apparently has a mind of its own and twists up while it’s either in your makeup bag or regular bag. The big deal? It smashes the top of the lipstick against the inside of the cap, meaning, destroyed lipstick. A major flaw which I would like to see fixed.
My hands-down favorite shade is Sugar Wafer, it’s the perfect nude that has a subtle tinge of color in it that literally compliments any look. And it’s been only with this one that I find looks really good on me. Snow Cap comes in at #2 but I find it has some brown undertones to it. Even though brighter colors are not my thang, Taffy comes in at #3 because Hubba Bubba is too bright of a pink for my taste – it’s more of a Summer shade in my opinion.
Do you own any Butter lipsticks? Which shade is your favorite?
