My makeup primer game isn’t that strong. Wait, rephrase that – it’s actually very strong but unlike other products in my collection this isn’t one of which I own a lot of because I went straight for the gold. When it comes to makeup application, staying power and the overall result, a good primer is paramount. There are so many things to take into consideration when choosing one that caters to your specific complexion type, skin issues, wants vs needs, etc, but most importantly of all, will it keep my face in place all day long? It wasn’t until about two years ago that I discovered the true power of a makeup primer – long before that I considered the product an industry gimmick. In a Sephora purchase came a sample size of their own SEPHORA COLLECTION Perfecting Ultra-Smoothing Primer. After using it, I decided that I kind of dug it and proceeded to purchase the full-size version. Thoroughly impressed with how my makeup looked versus without a primer, I went on a massive research mission to unearth this primer phenom that was quite foreign to me at that time.
Enter the Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer, which became my second primer purchase right afterwards and my instant go-to, holy grail, never gonna leave you, facial primer. I use this after my moisturizer and before my foundation as the first step towards the perfect canvas to apply my foundation onto – it’s also good just to wear on its own if you’re rocking it au naturale for a day because it evens and smooths out the skin tone/texture for a more brighter complexion. The soft, silk-like consistency almost melts into the skin and adapts to not just your overall skin but also fills in whatever fine lines you may have, blurs pores and common flaws without that heavy feeling certain other primers can leave behind on your face which usually dooms your beauty look right out the gate. But what is extra special about this primer are its anti-aging proprieties consisting of a formula that blends vitamins and antioxidants that support the natural collagen production overtime.
If your concern with primers that it will leave a greasy film or add a shine factor, this is the primer that will put those fears/concerns to rest. After you work it into the skin not only does it create a gorgeous satin veil but it also kind of mattifies to a certain degree so you won’t beget that sheen some other primers tend to cause. This could potentially work on all skin types but I would definitely caution those who are oily because this may not necessarily work for you.
I don’t tend to make face makeup recommendations very often since everybody differs from person to person, most especially when it pertains to products that claim they have anti-aging properties. And that mainly stems from my experience with anti-aging products over the years that didn’t perform like it should have. But in my makeup collection you will always find a tube of the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, my makeup would never look the same if I didn’t use it.
What is your favorite primer?
